La rondine opens the season in Monaco

Giacomo Puccini’s famous production of La rondine (The Swallow) in three acts will open the season at the Monte Carlo Opera House on 30 October.

Magda, a courtesan from Paris, falls in love with the provincial Ruggiero. She moves with him to Nice, abandoning his wealthy admirer, the banker Rambaldo. At sea the couple are truly happy. However, a letter from her lover’s mother, found by the girl, causes remorse. That is why she decides to tell the truth about her past. Magda has to leave her love and return to her rich lover.
The libretto by Giuseppe Adami was based on a German text by Alfred Willner and Heinz Reichert. The first performance of the opera in Monaco is dated 27 March 1917.
