The family joined in with the festivities of a traditional Monégasque ceremony.
Princess Charlene and Prince Albert have had a busy sequence of days, as they were out on two separate occasions to celebrate Sainte Dévote. Sainte Dévote is the patron saint of Monaco, and customarily, the population of the principality gather annually together to celebrate her . On Friday, the two attended the ceremony of the Salvation of the most Holy Sacrament. The celebration involved the traditional ‘burning of the boat’ ceremony, a symbol of Dévote’s story (the Saint was killed during the Diocletianic Persecution.) The tradition stretches back to the 19th century. Their two children Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella accompanied them on the night-time excursion and the official Instagram of the royal family reported that the family ‘kissed the symbolic boat’. After their ‘kiss’, the family lit the boat on fire, which spectators watched with amazement – and a little perspiration!
The Princess, surely one of Europe’s most elegant royals, radiated glamour; she wore a white, double-breasted Emilia Wickstead coat, coupled with a pair of black trousers and leather gloves. Princess Gabriella took some inspiration from her mother, as she warmed up in a Burberry coat. Meanwhile, Prince Jacques was the spitting image of his father, as both wore long black coats. Prince Albert made up for lost time, as he missed last year’s celebrations due to a battle with Covid-19.
Their next public appearance took place on Saturday at the stunning Saint Nicholas Cathedral in the heart of Monaco . This ceremony was the Pontifical Mass of the Holy Goddess, the second of the Dévote-oriented celebrations. The Princess continued to dazzle the crowd. On this occasion, she wore a navy blue power suit. Her husband joined her in the navy blue, as he wore a dashing suit and wore a pair of black sunglasses. This time, the children did not join them.
The family recently celebrated the Princess’s 46th birthday, which took place on Thursday. All four were at the Condamine Market, where Charlene was greeted with an extravagant cake.
